Playing in the Rain is Good for Your Soul

This summer has been intense. Between a teacher conference at the beginning of the summer, starting my own business, and writing part time for Makobi Scribe, I haven’t really had a chance to breathe. There have been many moments where I have felt like a bad mom. The kids are both pulling on my leg, but I have to get this one last post written. Continue reading

6 Father-Son Bonding Ideas

There are few things that I love more than watching my husband, Chris, interact with our son. Aidan was born two months early. Their bond has extended from the NICU into the world of a baby, a toddler, and now an almost 5 year old. It has been amazing watching their bond grow over the years. I am sure this list of father-son bonding ideas will evolve as Aidan gets older, but for now, these are perfect for the two of them! Personally, I love the final bonding idea! Continue reading

On the Hunt? Here’s Why Soft Skills Matter

Manners oh manners, where have you gone? I am pretty sure this is what recruiters are asking these days. In fact, I KNOW this is what they are asking. How do I know? In a past life I worked hand in hand with recruiters in order to help college graduates secure jobs. Let me be the one to tell you. That piece of paper (degree) is not a free ticket to any job you want. Skinny Strawberry Pina Colada Recipe

A few weekends ago my husband, Chris, and I broke out our Ninja blender. I don’t usually put much effort into my drink choices, but I was in the mood for something sweet. He ran out to the store (because he is awesome like that) and got me a Pina Colada mix and some coconut rum. He whipped me up the most delicious Strawberry Pina Coladas that afternoon. The next day, as I was putting away the blender and ingredients, my eyes skimmed over the nutrition information of the mix he bought. Oh. Em. Gee. 180 calories in 4oz of mix?! Add that to the 50 or so calories in the rum, not to mention the added frozen fruit. We are looking at over 1,200 calories consumed in the 4 Pina Coladas I drank! Now, I am not a health buff, but I know THIS is not an appropriate amount of calories to consume in one sitting. I felt terrible about myself, but could not face the fact that I would not be drinking any more Strawberry Pina Coladas this summer; they were just too good. I made it my mission to recreate this delicious concoction into a low calorie version that I could live with, coming up with this awesome Skinny Strawberry Pina Colada recipe.
